The Language: English (predominantly the British variant) is the primary language, but you will undoubtedly hear our local dialect known as Bajan (bay-shun). Most locals will be happy to teach you a phrase or two!

Bajan Time: Don’t be surprised if time moves at a slower pace here—you’re on Bajan time (island time). It’s more about a general timeframe than a precise hour. For example, “See you at 3” could mean anytime after 4! However, this doesn’t apply to business meetings.

The People: Barbadians are predominantly very nice and friendly people, and will surprise you with their warmth, casual charm, and sophistication.

No Camouflage Clothing: Camouflage is reserved strictly for the armed forces in Barbados. Wearing it could lead to a fine or confiscation of your items, so it’s best to leave it at home!

Currency Exchange: The Barbados Dollar (BBD) is pegged 2:1 to the U.S. Dollar (USD). For ATMs, there is a Republic Bank ATM at the Oistins post office and a First Caribbean Bank at Massey.

Safety: Barbados is friendly, but please stay aware, avoid unlit streets, and keep your valuables and passport secure in your room safe.

Our Location: Hidden Gem is located at #2 Inch Marlow, Christ Church, on the south coast. If taking a van, ask to be dropped at the landmark “Buffy’s Bar,” then walk right, left, and right to reach the property.

Buses & Vans: Stand at bus stops marked “To City” and flag down the bus or ZR van. Bridgetown can be reached by van for $1.75 USD.

Taxis: Please don’t hesitate to call Leander at 246-257-5876 if you need a taxi or island tour. You can also download our local app at www.pickupbarbados.com.

Driving: Driving is on the left and cars have the steering wheel on the right. To rent a car, you need a local driver’s permit, a valid license, and must be over 21.
